Environmental legislation impacts different organisations in different ways. Yes Oui Si understands the obligations that organisations have and will help your business to proactively prepare for the changing legislation and introduce a management process to ensure that the management of environmental impacts are embedded into day to day operations and decisions.
Yes Oui Si has an excellent grasp of the raft of European Union (EU), United Kingdom (UK) and Greater London Authority (GLA) legislation which has resulted in an increased focus on improving all aspects of sustainability within commercial buildings.
Examples include:
1. The European Parliament “Energy Performance of Building Directive” became UK law in January 2006.
Article 7 of the Directive is that each building must have a certificate that gives the building a rating so that its energy performance can be compared to similar buildings. The certificate will also have to include “recommendations for the cost effective investments which can be undertaken in the building, and which will improve its energy performance”.
Article 7 (Energy Performance Certificates)
Article 8 (Inspection of boilers) and
Article 9 (Inspection of air conditioning systems)
2. Carbon Reduction Commitment and Energy Efficiency Scheme
The CRC was announced in the 2007 Energy White Paper, published on 23 May 2007 and requires participants to report and pay for carbon dioxide emissions.
3. Mandatory Carbon Reporting
The Climate Change Act 2008 resulted in the “The UK Low Carbon Transition Plan National strategy for climate and energy” being published on July 2009. The UK Government has announced that under the Companies Act 2006 (Strategic and Directors’ Reports) Regulations 2013, quoted companies are required to report their annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in their directors’ report.
4. Building Regulations
The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) continues to make Building Regulations more stringent.
5. BREEAM ratings
The London Plan 2011 has a target to reduce the capital’s carbon dioxide emissions by 60% by 2025. Consequently, London Plan policy 4A.1 requires developments to make the fullest contribution to the mitigation of climate change and to minimise emissions of carbon dioxide and policy 4A.3 requires that developments meet the highest standards of sustainable design and construction. London Boroughs interpret these policies with the introduction of mandatory BREEAM standards e.g. Islington states that the Council will require all major developments to be built to BREEAM excellent standard, or to an equivalent level if BREEAM is superseded.
